Business Description
Modafinil is an oral medication used to improve wakefulness in narcolepsy. It is in a class of drugs called stimulants. It works by stopping nerve cells from reabsorbing dopamine, an excitatory chemical, after it is released into synapses. It is different from other stimulants, such as methylphenidate and d-amphetamine, because it does not appear to increase heart rate or blood pressure. In studies, modafinil has improved daytime sleepiness in narcolepsy patients by about 50 percent. It has also improved cognitive performance, at least in some tests. But it does not seem to prevent lapses of attention, and it may actually make some people feel more tired after taking it.
